United People of Australia
Privacy Notice
How we collect, use and look after your details when you join United People of Australia.
Version 2026-10-09. Last updated 9 October 2026.
Who we are
United People of Australia (“UPA”, “we”) is a community initiative. It currently operates under the umbrella of Aussie Economist, which is responsible for the information described in this notice.
Contact us about privacy at hello@unitedpeopleofaustralia.com.au.
What we collect
When you join, we collect:
- your full name, email address and postcode;
- your confirmation of the three member statements on the join form;
- whether you chose to receive emails from UPA;
- a record of your consent: the version of the wording you agreed to, the date and time, and the IP address you used when you joined, confirmed your email, subscribed or unsubscribed.
You need to give your name, email address and postcode, and confirm the three statements, to join. Without them we cannot record your membership.
Your membership record, including the three statements, shows that you support UPA’s principles. We collect this only because you choose to tick those statements, we use it only to record your membership, and we do not tell anyone who our members are except as this notice describes. Apart from that, we do not ask for, and do not want, any information about your ancestry, religion, political views or other sensitive matters.
Why we collect it
- To record your membership of UPA and confirm that your email address is yours.
- If you chose to receive them, to send you emails from UPA.
- To understand, in total numbers, where in Australia our members live (this is what your postcode is for).
- To keep a record of your consent and your email choices, and to honour them.
- To protect the join form from misuse, such as automated sign-ups.
Emails
Emails from UPA are optional. We only add you to the UPA mailing list if you tick the email box on the join form and confirm your address. Every email we send to the mailing list identifies UPA as the sender and includes a link to unsubscribe, which takes effect immediately. You can also ask to be removed by emailing us. Unsubscribing does not end your membership.
Whether or not you choose to receive emails, we send you an email when you join asking you to confirm your address, and a welcome email once you have confirmed. If your address is entered on the join form again later, we send one email to let you know.
Who we share it with
We do not sell, rent or trade your information. We do not add you to the Aussie Economist mailing list, and we do not give your details to any political party, campaign or other organisation.
Our website, database and email are provided by Hostinger International Ltd. Our membership records are stored on Hostinger servers in the United Kingdom, so your information is held outside Australia. Hostinger stores it on our behalf.
UPA may become an independent organisation in future. If it does, the UPA membership list will move with it so that UPA can continue, and we will tell members when that happens.
We may disclose information if the law requires us to.
How long we keep it
- If you do not confirm your email address, we delete your details after 30 days.
- If you confirm, we keep your details while you are a member.
- If you unsubscribe, we keep a record that you did, so we do not email you again.
- If you ask us to delete your details, we will do so, except where the law requires us to keep them.
Your choices
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted, by emailing hello@unitedpeopleofaustralia.com.au. You can stop receiving emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any UPA email.
Cookies, tracking and logs
This website does not use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers, and it loads nothing from other websites. Our emails do not contain tracking pixels.
Like most websites, our host keeps standard server logs of visits, including IP addresses and the pages requested, for security and troubleshooting. These logs are kept for a limited time and are not used to identify or profile visitors.
Security
Your information is sent to us over an encrypted connection and stored in a database that is not publicly accessible. Access is limited to the people who run UPA.
Questions and complaints
If you have a question or a complaint about how we handle your information, email hello@unitedpeopleofaustralia.com.au and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at www.oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this notice
If we change this notice, we will publish the new version here with a new date.
